It’s the first Razorback game weekend of the season in Fayetteville, and that means this town is gonna be bursting at the seams over the next few days. Hope y’all like people. And fun. But, definitely people. They will be everywhere.
The fun starts on Thursday this week with the return of First Thursday on the square. This month’s event has a “Folksday” theme, with a celebration of folk art, history, performances by Korey McKelvy & Band, Carousel Orchestra, Still on the Hill, and more planned on the square. Here’s our story.
Also on Thursday is The Music of Sam Cooke show originally schedule during the pandemic and rescheduled for this week at Walton Arts Center. This one starts at 7 p.m.
There are plenty of chances to see TheatreSquared’s new show Dial M for Murder on the schedule this weekend. Here’s more.
On Friday night, there will be live music on the square with 90s band Sister Hazel performing as part of Startup Junkie’s Startup Crawl event. In addition to the music, the startup crawl will include several stops at local businesses where attendees can learn about local startups while also enjoying some craft brews. We wrote about that recently as well.
Somebody is going to get hit by a cake on Friday night. That’s because producer Steve Aoki is performing at JJ’s Live, and he throws cake at people in the crowd as part of his live shows. He’s really good at throwing cake.
George’s has a couple big shows this weekend. Happy Hour on Friday night will feature longtime local rockers The Hardtops who are reuniting for the show this weekend. Later on Friday night, Magic City Hippies will perform, and on Saturday, local 90s country tribute Gone Country will take the stage after the Razorback game.
Speaking of Razorbacks, the Hogs will play their first Fayetteville game on Saturday as they take Kent State at 3 p.m. at Razorback Stadium.
The International Festival we wrote about earlier this week is happening on Sunday at Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. The event will include performances by different cultural organizations, food, and more.
Also on Sunday night, Scythian: Ukraine to Appalachia will perform at Walton Arts Center.
There are some big shows happening up north as well. There’s a film screening of The Empire Strikes Back with a live score by members of SoNA at the Walmart AMP Friday night, and Canadian indie pop band Alvvays will perform at The Momentary on Saturday night.
There’s even more below. Have fun, everyone.
