A longtime Fayetteville bar was named one of America’s favorite local music venues in a fan-led, nationwide competition organized by music publication, Consequence of Sound.

George’s Majestic Lounge, along with Rockwood Music Hall in New York City; First Avenue/ 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis; Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa; and Troubadour in Los Angeles, were today announced as five regional winners in the publication’s Hometowns of Consequence competition that started with more than 1,300 nominees.

“We are truly humbled to receive this type of fan voted recognition,” said George’s owner Brian Crowne of the honor. “Thank you first and foremost to our artists that grace our stages and to the live music fans that support them. George’s Majestic Lounge is a beneficiary of the love that happens between an artist and fan since we get to be the house that joins them in real time. Thank you to our team and past teams over 95 years that have kept the vibe and spirit alive that makes George’s part of our music community.”

Crowne’s wife Day, who co-owns the venue with him, also weighed in on the honor.

“This is just so cool,” she said in a Facebook post Friday. “George’s is a family, and it is Brian and I, Mom our bookkeeper, dad our repair man, our staff that serve our patrons, our patrons that continue to support live music, and artists that continue to choose our little venue. We appreciate everyone. We don’t do what we do for the recognition, but it sure feels good!”

Hometowns of Consequence started back in March, when the publication asked fans to nominate their favorite venues around the country. George’s was named one of the regional finalists in September, and fan-led online voting that ran through Oct. determined the winners.

The winners of the competition in each region (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West) will receive an in-depth coverage package from the publication, including video, editorial, social media, and podcast coverage featuring the venue as well as some of the local, regional, and national artists that perform there.

According to the announcement, Consequence of Sound will post in-depth features on George’s and the other winners “in the coming months” on their site.
