Fayetteville Public Schools have made the call to close on Friday, Jan. 12 due to expected winter weather moving into the area.

School officials made the announcement on Thursday night before the expected precipitation began this time.

From the announcement:

The severe weather forecast shows precipitation overnight and into the morning hours, with temperatures dropping below freezing during the morning. Forecasters expect flash freezing on roads during the morning commute, resulting in black ice and dangerous road conditions, with temperatures continuing to drop throughout the day. With the expectation of treacherous road conditions, school will be canceled for Friday, January 12th. All FPS schools will be closed.

Several other area schools made similarly proactive decisions. A list of other school closings we know about are below.
