Fayetteville Public Schools will be closed for at least one more day due to the snow and ice still lingering on local roadways.

District officials this afternoon announced that school will be closed again for a snow day on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

From the announcement:

We want to recognize and thank the City of Fayetteville and Washington County road crews for working hard to clear our streets and roads. While significant improvements have been made, many of our secondary and neighborhood roads remain ice-covered. This, coupled with the likelihood of refreezing this evening, makes it dangerous to run our buses tomorrow morning. Thus, school will be closed on Wednesday, January 17th for a snow day.

Local students have been out of school since last Thursday. The school was closed on Friday due to winter weather; Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday;Tuesday, and now Wednesday of this week due to snow.

Wednesdays temperature could reach above freezing for the first time in several days. The forecast calls for a high of 35 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
