Diamond Hogs to play McNeese State in doubleheader Saturday

Let’s play two on Saturday.

A rainy forecast for Friday prompted the No. 2 Arkansas Razorbacks to postpone their opening game of a three-game series with McNeese State until Saturday at noon.

The decision sets up the Razorbacks’ first and perhaps only doubleheader of the season, although it’s hard to believe this will be the only time rain intrudes on the Hogs’ schedule this season.

Arkansas and McNeese will play two nine-inning games Saturday with the second beginning approximately 45 minutes after the first, according to Arkansas Media Relations. Saturday’s ticket will get you into both games. Friday’s tickets are no longer valid, but can be exchanged for another game, based on availability.

Both games will be streamed on ESPN/SEC +. The radio broadcast will be on 92.1 FM or through the Razorback app.

The Hogs (10-2) plan to start ace lefty Hagen Smith (1-0, 2.77 ERA) in the opener against the Cowboys’ right-hander Zach Voss (0-2. 10.03 ERA).

Next up for the Razorbacks

Opponent: McNeese State (Doubleheader)
When: 12 p.m. Saturday, March 9
Where: Baum-Walker Stadium, Fayetteville
TV: SEC Network +

Razorback right-hander Brady Tygart (2-0, 1.12 ERA) gets the ball in the second game against a pitcher to be determined by the Cowboys, which are 8-5 on the season.

The Razorbacks plan to go with lefty Mason Molina (2-0, 1.98 ERA) on Sunday against an unannounced McNeese starter.

Central Arkansas nearly pulled off an upset over the Hogs with a ninth-inning rally Tuesday, but right-handed freshman Gabe Gaeckle picked up his second save of the year to help Arkansas to a 9-7 victory.

The Razorbacks are in the midst of a 12-game home stand that will include a 6 p.m. game Tuesday against Oral Roberts University and next weekend’s SEC opening series against Missouri.
