The city will close a section of the westbound lane on North Street to make way for new sidewalks and street improvements as part of the North Street Corridor project.

The lane will close from the College Avenue intersection to Washington Avenue from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, May 20 and lasting through Saturday, May 25.

The city said the work should take five weeks to complete, but that the project could be delayed due to bad weather.

Aside from constructing a new turning lane, a crosswalk will be built on the south side of the College-North intersection, and new traffic signals will be installed.

Future phases of the overall project will include further improvements to Mission Boulevard and from Garland Avenue to Gregg Avenue. The work will feature sidewalks, shared-use paved trails, trees, lighting and intersection improvements.

The project is funded by the street improvement bonds that Fayetteville voters approved in 2019.
