Man. I bet DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince’s royalty checks are like double the regular amount this time of year. Summer, Summer, Summertime.
If you’re reading this on Thursday, there might be time to make it down to Gulley Park for first of the Gulley Park Summer Concert series shows of the year. Local party band The Juice will kick things off this year with a free show on the gazebo stage at the park. Bring a blanket or a couple camping chairs.
Also in free music this weekend, the city will host another installment of their Weekend Starts free Friday concerts in the Lower Ramble with local duo, March to August and a free art activity by artist Susan Idlet. Here’s a bit more about that.
George’s has a full lineup of shows planned for this weekend. They’ll kick things off with a happy hour show featuring local classic rockers, Full House, followed by a three-band bill on Friday night featuring Kiyoko Lee, Yongi, and Windsome Traders. On Saturday night, they’ll host Austin-based dream pop/shoe gaze band Blushing along with locals Always Tired and Avery Lee & the Sweeties.
Chamber Music on the Mountain is happening this weekend as well, with performances set for Friday and Saturday at Mount Sequoyah Center. Here’s more info.
Also at Mount Sequoyah this weekend, local bands The Tares and Nancy who were active in the late 90s/early 2000s will reunite for a performance on Saturday night at Clapp Auditorium. We wrote about that one last week.
There’s a rock show at Smoke & Barrel on Saturday night as well with locals Mud Lung, Chrono Wizard, and Ghost Hollow.
TheatreSquared has a new show called Responders playing through the weekend, and you can also check out their annual Arkansas New Play Festival this weekend.
How about a DIY and punk makers market? The Misfit Market we wrote about earlier this week is happening at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Dark Hearts Community center, located at 3130 S. School Ave.
The annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival organized by Music Moves is happening this on Saturday in Springdale. This year’s event will include performances by R&B artist Donell Jones, along with funk band Cameo, and Grammy nominated hip hop artist, Twista, along with food trucks, a fashion show, a vendor market, kid zone, giveaways, and more. Here’s more info.
Up north, Bentonville Film Festival is happening in Benton County featuring film screenings, panel discussions, and more. Here’s more info.
Also in Benton County, local bands Boom Kinetic (Friday) and Randall Shreve (Saturday) will perform at Railyard Park in Downtown Rogers.
