UPDATED: Bank robbery and bomb threat reported Monday in Fayetteville

UPDATE: A Springdale man has been arrested in connection with this incident.

FAYETTEVILLE — A robbery and bomb threat was reported Monday morning on the north side of town.

Callers reported the incident just after 10 a.m. from the address of a United Bank branch at 670 E. Joyce Blvd., according to an announcement from the Police Department.

Those who called said a person entered the bank, presented a suspicious item on the counter and said it was an explosive device. The person demanded money and fled on foot, the post stated. Police did not say whether any money was actually taken from the bank.

The person is described as a male with tan skin who was wearing an orange hoodie, sunglasses and a yellow surgical mask. Witnesses said the man had a tattoo on his left hand.

The Bentonville Bomb Squad and Fayetteville Fire Department were also on the scene, according to a Facebook post from the department at 11:43 a.m.

The post stated that the bomb threat has been rendered safe, but that the investigation and search for the suspect are ongoing.
