80th Anniversary Celebration

The Arkansas Air & Military Museum is set to commemorate the 80th anniversary of its original white wooden hangar on Saturday, June 29.

The celebration will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 4290 S. School Ave. in Fayetteville. Visitors will receive half off the entry fee all day.

The historic hangar, designed by city engineer Henry George and completed in 1944, originally housed planes used by the 305th College Training Detachment, according to the museum’s website. Over the years, it has served various purposes, including housing Fayetteville Flying Services and eventually becoming a museum in 1986.

Museum-goers can explore over 2,000 artifacts, including vintage aircraft, military vehicles, and aviation memorabilia with a focus on Arkansas’s aviation history. Notable exhibits include pre-World War II racing planes, WWII military aircraft, and vehicles used in conflicts from WWII to Desert Storm.
