Weekend To-do: Feb 12, 13, 14

Valentines Day. Some people love it, some people say greeting card companies invented it to sell more cards in a slow season. No matter how you feel about the holiday, you have to admit that it’s way better than President’s Day (boring) or Groundhog Day (what?). And there’s definitely nothing sexy about Flag Day. What the hell is Flag Day, anyway?

My advice is to go with it and celebrate by eating some chocolate, drinking some wine, and making some love.

You could also check out some tunes.

Friday night, Shannon Wurst will play her last show with 3 Penny Acre at GoodFolk. Shannon is leaving the band to focus on her solo stuff which is great for her but still, kinda sad.

Front porch, whiskey swillin’, foot stomping, gypsy, punk, country, grumble, boogie band Dirtfoot will be playing an instore show at Sound Warehouse at 6 p.m., and they they’ll be at George’s Friday night with 1 oz Jig after The Odds and Full House play for happy hour.

Pope County Bootleggers are at Smoke and Barrel, and Goodtar Jones, Fat Pat’s Water Rats, and The Kicker Knot will be at The Groj.

Also Friday night, new-ish alt-country band The Bobby Drivers are at the Boom Boom Room with The Shady Janes and Cass Harris.

You could also check out Ceramic Cow’s Valentines show, “Pearls Sixth White Trash Wedding” at UARK Bowl on Friday or Saturday.

On Saturday, the annual Fat Saturday Parade of Fools will make its way from the square down to Dickson Street beginning at 3 p.m. Also, Sarah Hughes will be at Smoke and Barrel for a Fat Saturday parade party.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, you can watch a documentary called “Mad City Chicken” at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center, and one person will win a chicken. How awesome is that? No, I’m not kidding.

There’s a big show at the Boom Boom Room on Saturday with Little Rock’s Damn Bullets (awesome) and The Smithstonians. Greenhouse Grille has a rare Saturday night show this week with Matt and Gus Smith.

If you need some dope beats on Saturday, you should head to George’s for Two Fresh and Big Gigantic.

On Sunday, the Community Seed Swap we told you about earlier this week is going down at the Fayetteville Public Library.

Also on Sunday, Greenhouse Grille has two shows, with Beth Stockdell rocking the harp for brunch, and Jesse Collett and Er-Kang during the Valentine’s Day dinner.

Opal Fly’s Feelgood Lounge has four awesome ladies Sunday night with Shannon Wurst, Carter Sampson, Theresa Storch, and Aimee Borbuk.

Over at George’s, Ben Miller Band plays for Monster Mug Night.

You could also cap your Valentine’s Day evening at Smoke and Barrel with Heart Shaped Movie Night featuring Harold & Maude and True Romance.

Do whatever you want. What are you guys doing this weekend?
