Roller derby junkies, get ready for your fix. The 2011 NWA Roller Derby season opens at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23 at the Starlight Skatium.
In case you haven’t noticed, roller derby has become pretty popular around these parts over the last few years.
So popular, in fact, that there were enough local teams this year to create a four-team league that will battle it out for the NWA Roller Derby championship on May 1.
All four teams, the Gatling Girls, Hardwood Hustlers, Pistol Whips, and the Heartbreak Rollers, will be in action for their first bouts of the year Sunday night. The first 100 advance tickets are available online for $10, and tickets at the door will be sold for $12. Admission is free for kids 5 and under, and $5 for kids 5-12.
Also, the yet-to-be-named traveling all-star team will kick off its season on Mar. 26 against the CoMo Derby Dames. Anyone want to offer a name suggestion for our all-stars?
