April 2011 Fayetteville A&P funding requests are in

The April 2011 Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission funding requests are in and include 15 event organizers seeking a total of nearly $200,000.

Some familiar events that received funding this time last year include the Fayetteville Half-Marathon, which received $18,000, the OffShoot Film Festival, which received $5,000, and All OUT June, which received $4,000 in 2010.

New events requesting funding this year include the Block Street Block Party, the Fayetteville Roots Festival, and the NWA Cheese Dip Festival.

Twice each year, the commission reviews applications for amounts larger than $2,000 and those applicants who are approved, receive “seed money” for their event. The money comes from leftover revenue generated by the two percent Hotel-Motel-Restaurant (HMR) tax.

The Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission will meet at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fayetteville Town Center, but will not be reviewing the applications until a later date. Typically, the commissioners spend the month of April considering the requests before formally discussing award amounts at their regular May meeting.

We’ll post details on all the events seeking funding as soon as we receive more information.
