We did it, Fayetteville. We made it through another week of work, and we will all be rewarded with two straight days of weekend-y bliss.
This weekend has something for everyone, including people who like music, comedy, movies, swimming, ice cream, other food items, tacos, farmers’ markets, and mildish early-summer weather.
People who hate all of the above things will find a little bit less to enjoy this weekend, but those people have a lot of other problems to deal with. If you happen to run into one of those people over the next couple days, give them a hug (they won’t like that either, but it’s for their own good.) Weekend!
Friday
The Wilson Park Pool opens for the summer season today at 5 p.m. At around dark, the Dive-in Movie Series kicks off with Despicable Me. It’s totally free, FYI.
There’s a big Red Cross Disaster Relief Concert at George’s Saturday night. The eight-band lineup includes Randall Shreve, Jarris, Amsterdam, Monster Heart, Bleu Edmondson, Joel Schisler, People in Paper and Surf De Soleil. There’s a $5 cover, and all the proceeds benefit Red Cross disaster relief efforts. Also at George’s, Joe Giles and Earl & Them are playing happy hour beginning at 6 p.m.
Austin resident (and Arkansas native) songwriter Joe Sundell is at Smoke & Barrel Friday night with locals Damn Arkansan. You may know Joe from his work in Damn Bullets and Sad Daddy.
The Lightbulb Club has New Jersey hip-hop artist J.E. double F, along with locals Miniature Colossal Men and Brothel Sprouts Friday night. Have you heard Miniature Colossal Men’s cover of Divo’s Gates of Steel yet?
Bikes, Babes & Bling kicks off in Fayetteville today. Most of the action is at the Washington County Fairgrounds this year, but there is also pub crawl on Dickson Street starting at noon, and a bike parade at 4:30 p.m. Here’s the full schedule.
There’s a big show at the AMP with Christian rockers, David Crowder Band. 10 percent of all the ticket sales from the show be donated to the Red Cross for their disaster relief efforts as well.
Saturday

Cletus Got Shot
Do you need more mouth harp in your life? You can probably get some at the Fayetteville Public Library on Saturday, where Shout Lulu will be playing a family concert at 10:30 a.m. in the Walker Community Room.
Do you kids need some free ice cream? Ozark Natural Foods is hosting a Co-op Kids Ice Cream Social Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free ice cream rules.
Phunbags Comedy Improv are back at the UARK Ballroom Saturday night beginning at around 8 p.m.
George’s has a big show with Louisiana bluesman Tab Benoit (which is almost sold out), Cletus Got Shot is back at Smoke & Barrel Saturday night, and The Lightbulb Club is auctioning off some records.
Sunday
In addition to being a zillion bands, local musician Dan Dean also plays a solo show from time to time. He’ll be at Greenhouse Grille Sunday during brunch.
Also on Sunday, the Fayetteville Public Library’s Mountain Street Stage Music Series continues with South American-inspired sounds from Trio DeJaniero in the Walker Community Room at 2 p.m.
