A portion of North Palmer Avenue will be closed on weekdays for about three months while crews work to construct a new sidewalk and make drainage improvements.
Officials said Palmer will be closed to traffic between Markham Road and Center Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday once construction is underway. Preliminary work began Monday.
The project includes construction of a new 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side of Palmer, along with curb and gutter, and storm drainage improvements.
The work is aimed at helping improve pedestrian safety in the area west of the University of Arkansas campus, and will connect to existing sidewalks on Markham Road and Center Street.
