The annual MLK Day Freedom March began at around 11:15 a.m. Monday after a large crowd gathered in Lot 56 near the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Razorback Road in Fayetteville.
This year’s event, sponsored by the Northwest Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Council, the University of Arkansas, and the City of Fayetteville, included brief remarks by Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan.
Participants sang and chanted while marching along Razorback Road through the University of Arkansas campus and to the Student Union for the traditional noon vigil sponsored by the university’s Associated Student Government, the Multicultural Center and the Black Students Association.
