It’s going to be a good weekend, we can just feel it.
On Friday, two new art shows will host opening receptions at Mount Sequoyah. The first show is a reception for artist Shelby Fleming in Sequoyah Hall from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It features an installation of Fleming’s sculptural work. Also, Fenix Fayetteville will present a show titled Reflections of the Black Experience in Miller Hall from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Masks are required. Here’s a little more info.
But that’s not all for the mountaintop center. Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society will host saxophonist Richard Bruton and pianist Brant Jester Friday at 6 p.m. Bring your own chairs or a blanket for the event. You may also bring your own food and drinks to this concert, so pack a picnic and enjoy some outdoor music. Tickets are going quick, here’s a link.
At George’s Majestic Lounge, there’s a Prince Tribute on Friday with Samantha Hunt. Tickets are $15 in advance.
On Saturday, the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market is back on the downtown square. As with everything else, the market will look a little different at least initially with several measures in place for COVID-19 safety. Among them, masks and social distancing will be required, and market officials are asking for only serious shoppers to attend. Musicians and events will be suspended for now, and besides service animals, dogs are not allowed this year.
The Arkansas men’s basketball team plays Oral Roberts in the Sweet 16 on Saturday. It’s the first time the team has made it that far since 1996. The game starts at 6:25 p.m. on TBS. Here’s some more coverage.
Also this weekend, there’s a free pet microchipping event at the Washington County Animal Shelter (registration required), free exhibitions at the Momentary in Bentonville, and TheatreSquared is streaming Murder for Two.
