First Thursday Fayetteville events scheduled for tonight (Aug. 3) on the square have been cancelled, but art openings at several indoor galleries around town will go on as planned.

Experience Fayetteville this morning announced they would cancel their planned outdoor events, music, and other festivities on the square due to extreme heat.

“Due to the active heat advisory and in order to prioritize the safety of our vendors, participants and attendees, August’s First Thursday event is no longer,” read a Facebook post by the organizers.

Art openings at Community Creative Center, Fenix Arts, Art Ventures, and Mount Sequoyah Center will go on as planned as far as we know.

Community Creative Center will host an opening reception for a new show called Monster by Ohio-based artist Tom Bartel. The reception is planned for 5-8 p.m. Here’s more info.

Fenix Arts will host a Community Mandala Build this evening, also from 5-8 p.m. The event will include artists and others creating a 5′ mandala using organic materials. Here’s a bit more.

Art Ventures will host a show titled Natural Geometries by Martín Morales, and the AV Showcase, featuring works by Cheryl Kellar, Rani Bondhus, and Jeffry Cantu, along with free beverages and live music. This event is also from 5-8 p.m. Details are here.

Creative Spaces at Mount Sequoyah will host an opening reception this evening for a new show featuring work by artists Shay Holloway and Shelley Mouber. The event will also include open studios and refreshments, and will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. More here.

Stay cool out there, everyone.
