A tiny beer bar that has served Fayetteville for more than 50 years will close its doors this weekend.

Longtime watering hole The Beer Keg will be open for their last night of business tonight (Sept. 8) before closing their doors for good, according to a post on the bar’s Facebook page.

From the post:

After 50 years The Beer Keg is closing. Today is the last day to come say your goodbyes and get one last beer memory in the place that’s been so special for all of us for sooooo long. We are so sad to say goodbye! We still have cold beer and some other cool things for sale.

The bar, which initially operated in probably less than 400 square feet with just a handful of tables, originally opened in 1970. The business had expanded in recent years under new ownership with a patio out back that offered live music and serving up barbecue on the weekends.

Some of the employees we spoke to Friday who were packing up posters and memorabilia from the walls said that while tonight is definitely the last night at the Township location, they wouldn’t be surprised if the bar pops up in a new place in the future.

“We may be back in a new spot eventually,” they told us.

The Beer Keg is located at 50 E. Township Street in Fayetteville. According to the hours listed online, they’ll be open until 2 a.m. for their last night this evening.
