( Staff photo)A beloved local sandwich shop has closed its doors.
Green Submarine, the restaurant known for their chef-inspired sandwiches located at 1641 W 15th St., is permanently closed, owner Nathan Jendeski confirmed this week.
“Our three-year lease expired there and for now we will be concentrating on the Mess Hall,” he said.
Jendeski opened his second concept, called Mess Hall 45, in 2019. That restaurant, located at 1830 N Crossover Road, also offers a variety of sub sandwiches, along with burgers and other items.
The original Green Submarine location opened in 2010 in a small space on Wedington Drive before expanding to a larger area in the same building a few years later. A franchise location for the restaurant opened on Dickson Street in 2014 before closing that next year.
Jendeski said Mess Hall 45 will soon offer more of the menu from Green Submarine.
He also said he isn’t ruling out the possibility of bringing back the restaurant in a new location one day.
“I’m not looking for a new Green Submarine spot at the moment,” he said. “With current economic situation, it seems best to wait for the right opportunity,” he said.
