Walmart has closed its Walton Life Fitness Center in Bentonville in preparation for the opening of a new facility that will serve all of the company’s employees in Northwest Arkansas.

It will be the first building amenity to open as part of Walmart’s new home office campus. (correction: The first building to open on the new campus was the Layout Center in February 2022)

A message on the center’s website notes that facility was closed on Dec. 15 to allow for the relocation of equipment and training of staff members at the new center, which is set to open on Jan. 12, 2024 at 1400 S.E. Fifth St. in Bentonville.

The new 360,000-square-foot Walton Family Whole Health & Fitness center was designed by Duda/Paine Architects. It will include three indoor pools, six tennis courts, a walking track, a café, a youth activity center, and spaces for cooking, exercise, yoga and meditation classes.

All Walmart and Sam’s Club associates in Northwest Arkansas are eligible for a membership, which includes a spouse or domestic partner and dependent children up to age 26. Long-term associates meeting certain retiree criteria are also eligible.

The new home office campus will sit on roughly 350 acres east side of J Street between Central Avenue and 14th Street. The plans include 12 office buildings, along with several amenity buildings, parking decks and surface lots.

Officials have said the goal is to open the new campus in phases through 2025.
