Sarah Bunch (Flyer file photo)The Fayetteville City Council chose Sarah Bunch to serve as vice mayor for another year. The decision came after a unanimous vote on Jan. 18 before the start of the second meeting of 2024.
Bunch, who serves as the Ward 3, Position 2 representative on the council, was first chosen as vice mayor in 2021.
She was nominated by Holly Hertzberg this year. Councilmember Bob Stafford nominated D’Andre Jones, but Jones declined the nomination.
It will be Bunch’s fourth term serving as vice mayor.
Each year, the council elects a vice mayor to serve from the first meeting in January to the last meeting in December. The vice mayor fills in when the mayor is absent, which in recent years had only been for a few minutes at a time to give Mayor Lioneld Jordan a brief break during long meetings.
However, Bunch in 2022 was called upon to administer four straight City Council meetings while Jordan was at home recovering from a heart procedure.
Bunch was first elected to the City Council in 2016, and won a second term in 2020. She has so far been present for 157 out of 159 meetings for a 99% attendance rate at City Council meetings.
