City seeks artists for mural on Nelson Hackett Boulevard

Nelson Hackett Boulevard (City of Fayetteville)

The city is seeking artists to apply for a new outdoor mural project planned on Nelson Hackett Boulevard.

The plan is to commission a mural that reflects themes of movement, justice, and connectivity as part of a larger goal to decorate the road’s 500-foot-long retaining wall with murals over the next five years.

The selected artist will be paid $24,000, and the work is expected to be completed by June 15, according to a news release.

Applicants should be at least 18 years old and have experience in creating outdoor murals.

Those interested should submit their portfolios or proposals by March 18.

A non-mandatory pre-submission meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 via Zoom, where artists can gather more information and ask questions about the project.

The selection process will be conducted by the Fayetteville Arts Council, along with members from the Historic District Commission and Black Historic Preservation Commission.

More details and submission guidelines are available at the city’s project website.
