Donell Jones, Cameo, Twista to play Freedom Fest Juneteenth event in Springdale

An annual Juneteenth celebration by local non-profit Music Moves will return for a fourth year in 2024.

The organization’s annual Freedom Festival is set for Saturday, June 15 in Downtown Springdale.

This year’s event will include performances by R&B artist Donell Jones, along with funk band Cameo, and Grammy nominated hip hop artist, Twista, along with several local and regional acts to be announced soon.

“We are going into our 4th Annual and the expectations are very high,” said Music Moves VP and Program Director, Anthony Ball. “We have a great music line up and event, and people are coming from all over the country to be a part of this great NWA tradition.”

Last year’s event, headlined by Bone Thugs and Harmony was attended by more than 4,000 people, organizers said.

The event, created through a partnership by Music Moves, INTERFORM, The Community Cohesion Project (CCP) and the NWA Juneteenth Committee, is free to attend and open to the public.

Juneteenth, also known as the “African American Emancipation Day,” originated in Galveston, Texas in 1865, and is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. The day was recognized as a federal holiday when president Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act in 2021.

In addition to the music, Freedom Fest will include food trucks, a fashion show, kid zone, and more. More details about the festival will be announced as it gets a bit closer.
