An electronics store that has operated in Fayetteville for more than 50 years will soon close its doors.

RadioShack will close its Fayetteville location later this summer, according to a letter posted on the building.

The store, operated locally by the Vaughn family, is located at 1702 N. College Ave., near the corner of Sycamore Street. According to the letter, the Fayetteville store originally opened in 1971, and was one of five locations operated by the owners across Northwest Arkansas.

From the letter:

Competition from online retailers and an overall decrease in electronic hobbyists led to a dramatic decrease in business and led to the decision to close one store after another until only this store remained.

It’s with incredible sadness that we are now forced to close the last remaining RadioShack in Northwest Arkansas.

It’s been a pleasure serving our community, getting to know so many great customers, and working with so many good people over the years at all of our locations.

The store is currently offering 35% off everything, according to the marquee.

The last day of business for the Fayetteville location is set for Saturday, June 1, the letter states.
