Suspect shoots himself in struggle with police outside NWA Mall

A man was injured after his own gun went off during a struggle with police officers on Sunday outside the Northwest Arkansas Mall.

The man was a passenger in a car that was stopped by police for doing donuts in the mall parking lot at around 3:30 p.m., according to a report from KNWA.

The man and an officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the struggle, police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Mauk told the station. No officers fired their guns.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was quickly caught by police.

Both the driver and the passenger were arrested, but their names and ages have not yet been released.
