Honestly this weekend feels like it has at least two weekends worth of fun packed into it. Maybe three. The only thing we can think of is maybe find a friend that can do like half of this stuff, and you do the other half, and then you can get together later (like on a Monday) and watch the videos and/or compare notes?
If your weekend starts on Thursday, you could check out rapper Waka Flocka Flame at JJ’s Live, or head down to George’s for locals Ted Hammig & The Campaign and Squash Garden.
Friday night is another huge night for music. Country-folk artist Sierra Ferrell is in town for a show at JJ’s Live, for starters. Fayetteville musician Sawyer Hill, who has been making some waves and headlines nationally this year, is back in town for a hometown show with Dexter and the Moonrocks at George’s on Friday night as well. Also in Friday night tunes, Smoke & Barrel Tavern has a three-band rock bill with Surfwax, The Public and Always Tired.
There’s even more on Saturday. There’s a one-day festival, for one, happening in the Baum Stadium Parking lot on Saturday. It’s the UA’s annual Springtime of Youth Festival, and will feature performances this year by pop singer Bazzi, rapper Rico Nasty, indie pop artists Cults and Echosmith, and locals Squash Garden, Ozark Riviera, and Leyton Robinson.
Also on Saturday night, local rockers Fight Dream will celebrate the release of a new album at Smoke & Barrel. They’ll be joined by Avery Lee and the Sweeties and White Line Nightmares for the show.
Remember when the city hosted a silent disco and laser light show in the wooded area just south of the library along the trail? Well, that’s happening again this weekend. It’s called Phantasma in the Ramble, and there are two chances to check it out this weekend; on Friday and Saturday night. Here’s more info.
Monday is Earth Day, and there are at least two Earth Day-related events in Fayetteville this weekend. The city’s official celebration will include a cleanup event, folllowed by a free tree giveaway on Saturday. Here’s more info about that. The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will also host an Earth Day Celebration this weekend. The BGO will celebrate on Sunday with a mini festival featuring “interactive activities, crafts, games, and live music.”
There a few good shows in town as well. Walton Arts Center has performances of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird all weekend, and TheatreSquared has two shows playing right now; Laughs in Spanish and Fat Ham.
In sports, the John McDonnell Invitational track meet continues on Friday at John McDonnell Field. In addition to the world class athletes in town for the meet, they’re also hosting a Fastest Kid in Fayetteville competition on Friday night.
Also in sports, the Razorback softball team are in town for a series versus Alabama.
