Take off your dress pants and your fancy suit jacket, and put on your party pants and your fancy party jacket, everyone. It’s time for a dadgum weekend around here.
For starters, there are a couple big shows at the Walmart AMP this weekend. The venue will kick things off on Thursday night with NEEDTOBREATHE and Judah and the Lion. On Friday night, there’s a country show with Parker McCollum, Corey Kent, and Catie Offerman.
Also in parties, George’s will kick off their weekend with Full House for happy hour on Friday, followed by electronic show with The Widdler late night on Friday (The Widdler has a song called Snokin Weem, FYI). On Saturday, Giovannie & The Hired Guns will perform.
It’s a good weekend for performances in town. Walton Arts Center has a new touring version of Hairspray playing all weekend, and TheatreSquared has two shows (Fat Ham and Laughs in Spanish) playing through the weekend as well.
It’s also a good weekend for activities. The annual Square to Square ride from Fayetteville to Bentonville is on Saturday, and the Cow Paddy Run 5k and fun run is happening at Gulley Park on Saturday as well.
Also in fun-sounding activities, Community Creative Center’s annual Arkansas Pottery Festival is happening all weekend as well. This year’s event includes demonstrations and lectures from two nationally recognized potters – Cherokee artist Troy Jackson, and Quapaw artist Betty Gaedtke, an exhibition and sale, a cookout and potluck, live music, and more. Here’s more info.
There’s a Star Wars-themed event including “fandom-based” local vendors, costume contests, interactive events, and more happening at Fayetteville Town Center on May 4. It’s called Reyetteville, and it’s organized by the folks who did the Fruitcake adults-only market around the holidays. Here’s more info.
Sunday is Cinco de Mayo, and local brewery Fayetteville Beer Works is hosting a party featuring nachos and other treats by Nellie Bs bakery.
Also in Cinco de Mayo action, Maxine’s Tap Room will host a celebration of what would have been Maxine’s 100th birthday with a fundraiser for her scholarship endowment fund. The event will include pitchers of beer, birthday cake, tacos from Margarets, and other festivities. Here’s more about that.
There’s plenty more below. Have a great weekend, Alex. You too, Derek.
