UPDATED: Six new hotels planned in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — The city could have as many as five six new hotels in the next year or so.

Developers have recently submitted plans for two three new hotels around town, in addition to the three that are already either under construction or in the works in Fayetteville.

Listed below is everything we know about the upcoming hotels.

The first hotel scheduled to open is the Stonebreaker Hotel atop Markham Hill in Fayetteville.

The 78-room boutique hotel is part of a larger development that will also include a restaurant, a members’ club, and an events venue on the hilltop property just west of the University of Arkansas campus.

The new hotel and restaurant will be operated by Hay Creek Hotels, a firm with offices in New York City, Las Vegas, and Denver.

The Stonebreaker is a project from Specialized Real Estate Group, whose CEO Jeremy Hudson said could open as early as December, with the restaurant and event space possibly opening a bit earlier in August.

Next up is a Moxy Hotel, which crews broke ground on in February in south Fayetteville.

The 7-story, 131-room hotel is part of a larger mixed-use development called South Yard at the southwest corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South School Avenue.

It will be the state’s first Moxy Hotel, and is a partnership between South Yard developers Specialized Real Estate Group and Beechwood Pinnacle Hotels. The Marriott-owned brand features unique communal spaces aimed at younger guests at a lower price point.

If all goes according to plan, the Moxy Hotel could be open as soon as summer 2025.

The City Council last month approved a planned zoning district for a yet-to-be-named 7-story hotel planned next to the new downtown park area under construction known as The Ramble.

The 114-room hotel is set to be built at the southern end of new civic space across from the Walton Arts Center. It will include some underground parking spaces, plus a valet parking lot a few blocks away on Center Street.

Developers have said the ground level will include public spaces that face the new park, including a coffee shop and cafe, a restaurant and bar, and an outdoor covered patio. A restroom area is planned on the northwest corner of the hotel with outdoor access for park users. A rooftop bar and swimming pool are also in the plans.

The council last year approved an agreement with local developer Brian Reindl to build the hotel after selling a half-acre portion of city-owned land to Reindl and his partners for just under $1.25 million.

Country Inn & Suites

Plans for a new Country Inn & Suites by Radisson are making their way through the city development process.

Documents were first presented to the city’s Technical Plat Review Committee in March, and show a 4-story hotel with 87 guest rooms at 2888 N. McConnell Ave. near the intersection of Drake Street.

The new hotel would sit behind the Mini Mart gas station and Liquor To Go store just south of the Interstate 49 at Garland Avenue.

Home2 Suites

Development plans show a proposed Home2 Suites in the undeveloped land next to the Cross Church campus off I-49 in west Fayetteville. (City of Fayetteville)

Another project working through the city’s planning process is a Home2 Suites by Hilton on Futrall Drive.

The new 5-story hotel is set to include 160 rooms just south of the Cross Church campus by the Interstate 49 interchange with Wedington Drive.

The documents show Lighthouse Hospitality LLC as the applicant, and also include plans for a 3,000-square-foot meeting facility.

Documents were first presented to the city’s Technical Plat Review Committee in May, but were tabled. The committee is set to revisit the project at its next regular meeting on June 12.

Residence Inn/Springhill Suites

Shortly after publishing this story, we were notified of a sixth hotel that’s in the works.

This one is a combined Residence Inn and Springhill Suites in west Fayetteville.

The 5-story, 199-room hotel is planned at 2665 W. McMillan Drive, which, according to plumbing permits, would sit just east of the Cross Church campus by the Interstate 49 interchange with Wedington Drive.

It’s in the same vicinity as the Home2 Suites project mentioned above that’s working its way through the city development process.
