As usual on Wakarusa Eve, there was plenty left to do in preparation opening day of the annual camping and music festival when we arrived Wednesday afternoon.

Tickets are currently $179 for a full-event pass, $139 for a three-day pass and $99 for a two-day pass. Plus, every vehicle entering the festival requires a camping or parking pass ($29-$99).

The Avett Brothers are set to headline the 2012 Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, it was announced today.

The format for the competition is simple. Whichever band gets the most votes from fans in attendance at the show Thursday night will win a chance to perform at Wakarusa.

Wakarusa officials announced that the battle-of-the-bands-style contest will taking place at 14 venues around the country next month, with the local battle set for Jan. 19 at George’s.

Full event tickets to Wakarusa 2012 go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

ReverbNation announced Tuesday that it has partnered with Wakarusa organizers to accept free submissions from artists hoping to play at the four-day music festival.
